Speakers from the Bank of Japan gave an overview of the on-going upgrading project of the BOJ-NET, including background, key features, and timeline of the upcoming upgrade. Dr. Inui addressed the most recent trends in payment and settlement systems throughout Asia, as well as implications to payment and settlement systems in Japan.

University of Tokyo-IBA Joint Workshop on the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act

This event was the fourth round of the FIEA workshops held in 2012 and 2013. These workshops are targeted at professionals of legal, compliance and other regulatory functions within IBA member firms. This workshop was organized by the University of Tokyo, Program on Global Securities Market Law. The program was led by Professor Hideki Kanda and Professor Hiroyuki Kansaku of the University of Tokyo and supported by Visiting Professors (Mr. Matsuo of Nishimura & Asahi and Mr. Osaki of Nomura Research Institute).

Ministry of Finance Briefing on Revisions to the Foreign Exchange Inspection Manual

The Foreign Exchange Inspection Manual will be amended in accordance with the amendment to AML regulations, i.e. the Law on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds. The FX inspection manual amendment will be announced in early March and will take effect on April 1. The presentation will focus on currency exchange business, rather than the entire manual, and is recommendable to those banks conducting such business.
