Summary:

We are delighted to welcome three different industry leaders to present to IBA Japan members an overview of the FinTech Ecosystem in Japan.

The presentation will include discussions from the following perspectives:

• Views from the Industry Association
• Views from the Incubator/ Practitioner
• Views from the Regulator

Speakers:

Takeshi Kito, Vice-chair, Fintech Association of Japan

Takeshi is a Fintech entrepreneur, and Vice-chair of the Fintech Association of Japan and leads international partnerships.

Aside from those activities, he sits on a committee for the Government of Japan's Regulatory Sandbox and an experts group of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for cross-border transfers of data.

Prior to establishing his own startup, he worked for Merrill Lynch as an investment banker and has 12 years of experience in capital markets in total. Before joining Merrill Lynch, he worked at Boston Consulting Group.

Makoto Shibata, Head/ Chief Community Officer, FINOLAB Inc.

Mr. Shibata is currently in charge of FINOLAB community operations since 2019. In his former position at The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, he was leading R&D initiatives in emerging technology and online/mobile financial service. He also held positions in corporate planning, accounting, corporate finance and retail customer services at the bank. He is one of the founders of FINOVATORS and became an external board member at new digital bank, UI Bank, when it acquired a banking license in 2021. He holds a Bachelor of Economics from University of Tokyo and a Master of Science in Development Economics from University of Oxford.

Ryosuke Ushida, Chief FinTech Officer/ Head of FinTech and Innovation Office, Financial Services Agency Japan

Ryosuke Ushida leads initiatives related to digital innovation in the financial sector at the JFSA. Prior to his current position, he conducted research on the regulatory framework and governance mechanisms in the decentralized financial system as the Senior Fellow of Cyber SMART research center at Georgetown University from July 2019 to June 2021.
