Celebrating 40 Years of Advocacy and Leadership at IBA Japan

As the International Bankers Association of Japan (IBAJ) marks its 40th anniversary, we are honoured to have our journey featured in the November 19, 2024 edition of Kinzai. This milestone article not only highlights the evolution of IBAJ—from a gathering of foreign banks in 1984 to a robust association representing 77 members across banking, securities, and asset management—but also features insights from Philippe Avril, Senior Executive Officer of IBAJ.

Philippe underscores the IBAJ’s pivotal role in Japan’s financial sector. Drawing from his extensive experience, he reflects on the association’s achievements in fostering dialogue with regulators, promoting cross-border business continuity strategies, and driving innovation that aligns with global standards. His inclusion in Kinzai highlights the importance of the IBAJ in navigating challenges and seizing opportunities within Japan’s evolving financial landscape.

We are especially proud of our recent expansion to include foreign asset management companies, further positioning IBAJ as the sole association representing the interest of the entire foreign financial community in Japan. This strategic growth allows us to advocate more effectively across the entire investment chain, from banking and securities to asset management and private equity.
